Former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tony Cingrani, who has been pitching this season for the Lexington Legends, had his contract purchased by the Chicago Cubs, per an announcement from the Legends on MILB.com.

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tony Cingrani (52) delivers in the seventh inning during the National League baseball game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Cincinnati Reds on July 20, 2017, at Great American Ball Park.

Cingrani and former Reds teammates Brandon Phillips and J.J. Hoover have been playing together in Lexington since the independent team added Hoover earlier this month.

Phillips, who turned 40 Monday, earlier this month became the first-ever Atlantic League player to be on the roster of a team he co-owns.

Hoover, 33, made his debut for the Legends last week, allowing two runs in a four-inning start.

Cingrani, Phillips and Hoover played together in Cincinnati from 2012 to 2016. The Reds traded Cingrani in July 2017 to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Hendrik Clementina and Scott Van Slyke.

Cingrani played for the Dodgers in 2017 and 2018, when he last pitched in the Majors before suffering a shoulder injury. He allowed just one run over five innings for the Los Angeles during the 2017 postseason.

In eight appearances for the Legends, Cingrani posted a 1.13 ERA.
