VSSUT Burla gets new Vice Chancellor

BHUBANESWAR: Odisha governor and chancellor of universities Ganeshi Lal on Monday appointed Bansidhar Majhi as vice-chancellor of the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla for a period of three years. He is presently working as the director of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Kancheepuram, Chennai.

He has more than 26 years of academic experience in the field of computer science and engineering. He has guided 18 PhD scholars and 70 MTech and eight MTech (Research) scholars. The professor has been awarded with the Samanta Chandrasekhar Award, 2016 by the Odisha government.

Majhi, a native of Dhamma area in Sambalpur district, is the alumnus of the national institute of technology (NIT) Rourkela. He later worked as a teacher in his alma mater for several years. He will serve the VSSUT for three years with effect from the date he assumes office as such or until further orders whichever is earlier, said an official statement.

He has served in various administrative positions as head of the department, Dean (Academic), chairman, automation cell. He has been serving as members of various accreditation committees like the national board of accreditation and the national assessment and accreditation council, said the sources.



Majhi said he will streamline the research and project works, quality teaching, publication, patent filing and other works to get good ranking. He will start training programmes for faculty members so that teachers will stay updated about the fast changing technology world.



The professor said he will set a vision plan for three years of his tenure and work accordingly. “I will find out what are the strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities of the institution and start working parallelly instead of doing one by one. Within six months, I will find out all the remedial measures of the issues and take the pending works forward,” he added.
