Norman not looking for big NRL pay day

Corey Norman has indicated he'd be willing to take less money to stay in the NRL rather than head to England, conceding his "big pay days" are behind him.

Norman's future beyond the end of this year remains uncertain, after being told by St George Illawarra he would not be re-signed.

The 30-year-old on Monday admitted he thought that was the "right call" by the club, with Junior Amone and Jayden Sullivan waiting in the wings.

But it hasn't helped Norman's own future.

Norman is yet to attract interest from an NRL rival despite being shopped around after being tapped on the shoulder earlier this month.

When asked if he had an interest in heading to the English Super League for next season, Norman maintained his priority was closer to home.

"Obviously I would prefer to stay in Australia," he said.

"I know my big pay days have been and gone now. So, it ain't even about the money anymore.

"I spoke to my manager just after it happened, but I haven't spoke to him since then.

"If I'm playing good football and the team's going well and we make the finals and stuff like that, I believe football always sorts that that kind of stuff out."

While most NRL clubs have their halves sorted for next year, Norman could offer depth of utility value at a number of clubs.

He said the Dragons had made the right call to back Amone and Sullivan as their future with Tyrell Sloan the favourite to replace Matt Dufty at fullback.

Sloan's debut against Canberra last week, in which he scored a superb try after his own chip kick, was arguably the most impressive for the club since Dufty's own in 2017.

"The club is heading in a good direction and it's the right call," Norman said.

"Obviously I would have preferred to stay here but I'm a realist and I can see what they're trying to do.

"I look forward to a couple years time sitting back and watching them boys play really good football in the NRL."
