Wimbledon 2021: Novak Djokovic progresses to round 2, defeats Jack Draper after early scare- Defending champion Novak Djokovic has begun his quest for record 20th and straight third grand slam in sttle. He came from behin to defeat Jack Draper in 4 sets after losing the opening set.
Djokovic returned to Centre Court 715 days after lifting the Wimbledon title. The Serbian is the favourite to win straight 3rd grand slam heading into Wimbledon. He won the match 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2 after losing the first set 4-6.
Left-handed Draper, playing just his fifth match on the main tour, saved seven of seven break points in the opener as he stunned the top seed.
But Djokovic soon snuffed out any danger of him becoming only the third defending champion to lose in the first round, by sweeping through the remainder of the tie.
He finished with an impressive 25 aces and 47 winners as his 19-year-old opponent wilted.
Djokovic will face either former runner-up Kevin Anderson or Chilean qualifier Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera for a place in the last 32.
British teenager Jack Draper was playing the match of his life as he takes on World No.1 Novak Djokovic. The youngster made his Grand Slam debut in Wimbledon. The 19-year-old wild card, ranked a career-high 250 in the world, notched two impressive top-40 victories over Jannik Sinner & Alexander Bublik en route to the quarter-finals at Queens last week.
