In order to enhance the passengers carrying capacity, the Western Railway will from Monday (June 28) introduce 15-car services on the slow lines between Andheri and Virar.
The addition will increase the carrying capacity of these services by 25 per cent.
The WR informed that to provide the services, 25 services including 13 DN and 12 UP services will be converted from 12-car to 15-car services. Out of these, 18 services are slow line services, while seven are on fast lines.
The project for the extension of 27 platforms at 14 stations on a slow corridor between Andheri and Virar was carried out at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 60 crore.
The Western Railway said that yard remodeling of four major Yards (Andheri, Bhayander, Vasai Road and Virar), Construction/Extension of 5 FOBs, and Provision of Double Discharge at Jogeshwari for smooth dispersal of commuters were undertaken to make the 15-car services enable.
