Amritsar, June 26

To mark ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’, the Punjab Police today destroyed heroin worth over Rs 1,318 crore in the international drug market at a state-level programme here today.

Police Commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said 659 kg heroin besides 3,000 kg poppy husk, 5.8 crore sedative pills and capsules, 166 kg ganja and 5 kg charas and other intoxicants brought from different districts of the state were destroyed at a paper mill incinerator here.

The Police Commissioner said the drug disposal committees from different districts destroyed the drugs seized in their respective areas. He said earlier Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh digitally launched the progamme. Strict protocol was followed by taking permission from courts for the destruction of case property. — TNS
