Terror attack foiled as man carrying IED nabbed in Jammu:Police

Jammu, Jun 27 (UNI) Jammu Police said a terror attack was foiled as a man carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was nabbed here on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Chandan Kohli late on Sunday evening said police personnel laid a naka at Barmini road in Jammu whereby a suspicious person, coming from Barmini towards Bathindi and carrying a bag was noticed.

The man, on seeing police naka party, tried to escape but in vain as he was nabbed.

"An Improvised Explosive Device (5.5 KGs) was recovered from his bag," said the SSP.

On sustained questioning, the suspect disclosed his name as Nadeem-ul-Haq, resident of Zainhal, Tehsil Banihal, District Ramban.

A case under relevant sections was registered and investigations are in progress, Mr Kohli said.

During the preliminary investigation it has been transpired that the accused was in contact with the handlers from Pakistan and Shopian associated with LeT (TRF) who had given him a task to plant IED in some crowded place in Jammu City.

The Jammu SSP termed it as a major success for police as a possible major terror strike had been averted.

Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh, after the recovery of an improvised explosive device, told UNI that the LeT operative received the explosives in Jammu to carry terror attacks.

"An IED was received by the LeT outfit operative, which was to planted at some crowded place," the DGP said.

He said that a major terror attack has been averted with this recovery.

"The suspect is being interrogated and more people likely to be picked up in this case," said the police chief.
