The year 2021 poses a different challenge for Federer who has struggled with form following his injury. He lost to little-known players like Pablo Andujar in Geneva Open and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the grass-court event Halle 2021 before withdrawing himself from French Open 2021 after the fourth round. Notably, Federer has failed to add an ATP title to his name since 2019.

Unable to overcome Novak Djokovic
Roger Federer trails to World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the head-to-head record in the last 5 meetings by a heavy margin. He is also behind Djokovic in all-time record. He had lost the Wimbledon title against Djokovic in the 2019 final. Djokovic also defeated him in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2021. Djokovic, on the other hand, is bidding for his third straight grand slam title in 2021. It will be a tedious task to overcome Djokovic owing to his spectacular form.

Injury scare
The tennis legend, Federer, has been recovering from two arthroscopic right knee surgeries he underwent last year. He had withdrawn himself from the French Open citing he doesn’t want to push himself too quickly on his road to recovery.
“After discussions with my team, I’ve decided I will need to pull out of Roland-Garros today. After two knee surgeries and over a year of rehabilitation it’s important that I listen to my body and make sure I don’t push myself too quickly on my road to recovery. I am thrilled to have gotten 3 matches under my belt. There is no greater feeling than being back on court,” said Roger Federer.
If the injury resurfaces then Federer might fail to win his 21st Grand Slam title. He is chasing a ninth title at Wimbledon which starts on June 28.
