Surat, Jun 27 (UNI) Surat-based businessman and diamond industrialist Mahesh Savani joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in presence of Delhi's deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Sunday.
Savani, a philanthropist, is known for his social works mainly arranging mass weddings of women who don’t have parents or anyone to look after them.
He came to the news after arranging up to 300 such weddings per year.
The joining of 51-year-old Sawani, who belongs to the politically dominant Patidar community of Gujarat, will be a game-changer for the national capital-based party.
In the assembly elections to be held in Gujarat next year, AAP has announced to field candidates on all 182 seats.
In the local elections held earlier this year, in Surat--a BJP stronghold-- the AAP had captured more than two dozen municipal seats in unprecedented performance.
Encouraged by this, party president and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a roadshow here and visited Gujarat again recently.
