The Rajasthan college education department has taken up initiative to provide remote learning for all and launched a YouTube channel named ‘Gyandoot’ on June 9, dedicated for lectures. With 4600 students enrolled for it, the viewership has crossed 2.30 lakh mark in just 15 days.
Around 113 hours of content has already been uploaded and more is expected to be online soon.
The second wave of COVID had disturbed physical classes in colleges and universities in Rajasthan as higher education institutions had to be closed. More than 12 lakh students are currently learning through remote lectures owing to the pandemic.
The students were given a link to register and teachers were asked to produce videos of their particular subjects.
"We have given the responsibility to 12 government colleges to coordinate with teachers and selected 22 subjects in the first phase. Now we have a content of 113 hours on these subjects and the process is going on as new videos are being uploaded every day", said Vinod Bhardwaj, the state coordinator of the drive.
He told that the department is organizing a workshop for teachers to make their videos more interesting and technically sound.
Students can watch these videos anytime, anywhere and can comment down their queries in the comment box of the particular video.
This drive has sighed relief to the department, as there is an acute shortage of teachers in the government colleges of the state. 2572 posts are vacant out of 6939 sanctioned posts of teachers.
A central repository has been created of the content made in the drive and can be used in colleges where teachers of concerned subjects are not available.
