Babenhausen, Germany
Continental and
Elektrobit have announced an integration of Custom Assistant into Continental’s
Cockpit Computer with software and services provided by EB. The two companies
have announced advancements in automotive embedded voice experience. The
integration of Alexa Custom Assistant in a vehicle will allow automakers to use
Alexa’s advanced AI and create their own intelligent assistants. With this
collaboration, Continental will bring its automotive electronics whereas EB
will use its software expertise.
Also,
by using Alexa Custom Assistant, the automakers can experience the effect of a
fully integrated digital cockpit. This will also allow the automakers to stand
uniquely among the competitors.
According to Frank Rabe, Head of the business unit Human
Machine Interface, Continental, the automotive cockpit is becoming complex with
the addition of cameras, displays, advanced features, and sensors. The
consumers can also enjoy a seamless technology experience as boundaries between
life in and outside the vehicle is blur. He also said that, the Holistic
interaction concepts are important in today’s time. As the automakers will work with Amazon, they
can create customized voice AI experiences to enhance the customer experience.
Once,
Alexa Custom Assistant will be added to the vehicle, different experiences can
be programmed into the vehicle. This will create a dialogue between the driver,
Alexa, and the custom assistant. The AI will ensure that every request is
routed to the assistant so that the customer can enjoy a delightful experience.
Tasks like rolling down the window, playing an audio-book, selecting the
favorite song, will all be routed to the vehicle brand’s assistant. The
automakers can also come up with a unique wake word. By doing this they can
coexist with Alexa while using the benefits of an intelligent assistant that is
their product expert.
According
to Ned Curic, Vice president, Alexa Auto, with the advancement in AI, the voice
experience in vehicles has become more user-friendly, natural, and
conversational. The company wants that all automakers can use this innovation
without making any extra investment. He also said that this integration of two
companies will bring a highly integrated and scalable solution in the industry
as it will focus on adding customizable in-vehicle experiences to cockpit
systems. Also, the automakers can now focus on creating unique capabilities
which will make their customers happy and they do not have to burden themselves
with the hassle of creating an intelligent assistant from scratch.
The
integration of Continental and EB with Alexa Custom Assistant
will be demonstrated at Alexa Live at 7:15 p.m. The interested automakers can
join the session. Alexa Live is Amazon’s free virtual education event for the
Alexa developer community.
EB
has a multi-year relationship with Amazon and this engagement is an extension
to its previous relationship. Earlier EB had showcased cockpit software
integration with Amazon at both CES 2019 and CES 2020. EB is a software expert
and has been serving the industry for more than 30 years now.
As
per Christian Reinhard, Executive vice president, Elektrobit, this integration
will pave the way and will make it easier for OEMs to add new and distinct
features to their vehicles.
