Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad made a big allegation on Twitter on Friday that his account was blocked for about an hour. Twitter cited this as a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of America by Ravi Shankar Prasad. After this, the Twitter account of senior Congress leader and chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology Shashi Tharoor has also been blocked. Tharoor himself tweeted that the same thing happened to him.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had informed about the temporary closure of his Twitter account by tweeting on Friday. He tweeted, "Friends! Something very unique happened today. Twitter suspended my account for about 1 hour on the grounds of an alleged violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of the United States of America and, however, the company later granted me access to the account.

Retweeting this tweet of Ravi Shankar Prasad, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology Shashi Tharoor said, "Ravi Ji, the same thing happened to me. Clearly, the DMCA is being hyperactive. According to the Congress MP, Twitter deleted one of his tweets because of a copyright issue related to Rasputin, a song by once-famous vocal group Boney M. Tharoor said that his account was restarted after the process.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that an answer will be sought from Twitter. Twitter will also be asked to clarify what rules and procedures it is following while doing business in India.

Let us tell you that the tension between Twitter and the government is increasing. The parliamentary committee had summoned Twitter officials to appear before it on Friday evening. In this sequence, representatives of Twitter India appeared before the Parliamentary Committee and recorded a statement on the issue of misuse of the social media platform, protecting the rights of citizens. According to the information revealed about this, the committee has reprimanded the officials of the company. Referring to the privacy policy on behalf of Twitter, the committee said that the law of the land is big, not your policy.
