With the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wiping out the opposition Congress in the Surat Municipal Corporation election and emerging as a powerful opposition and with many people joining the party thereafter, AAP is expected to play an interesting role in the 2022 Gujarat election. However, Gujarat, which is essentially bi-polar in nature, has rarely been kind to any "third party" in the state elections.

Meanwhile, both the BJP and Congress are accusing each other of being in tacit understanding with AAP much to the chagrin of the new entrant, who is vehemently denying any such attention from either.

"Do not forget that the party was born to throw the Congress out of power in Delhi under the patronage of the RSS," said Manish Doshi, Congress spokesperson. "They have been deliberately brought into Gujarat by the BJP to bolster their chances which are not looking good given the sufferings of the people during the pandemic, cyclone and the economic downturn," he added.

"AAP will only help the BJP to divide the Congress as well as the dissident BJP votes and pave the way for BJP," he alleged.

Meanwhile, several BJP leaders have viciously attacked the AAP leadership in the state.
