Chandigarh, June 25

Chandigarh has been ranked second among all states and UTs after Odisha for effective implementation of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in the country.

In the national rankings released by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Chandigarh is placed second during an online event organised today to commemorate six years of the three transformative urban missions, Smart Cities Mission (SCM), AMRUT and PMAY-U, which were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015.

Rs54.09-cr works approved

MC Commissioner KK Yadav said in Chandigarh, 12 projects costing Rs54.09 crore were approved. Works such as laying of new water supply lines in uncovered areas was underway.

The event was presided over by Hardeep S Puri, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Housing and Urban Affairs, and was attended by key urban stakeholders from Central and state governments.

MC Commissioner KK Yadav and Chief Engineer Shailender Singh received the awards online. Yadav said AMRUT is the first focused national water mission. All cities with population above 1 lakh are covered under it. Providing piped water supply and sewerage in cities is the major focus of the mission. Storm water drainage, non-motorised urban transport and green spaces and parks are minor components of the mission.

In Chandigarh, 12 projects costing Rs54.09 crore were approved. 100% funding for these projects was provided by the Centre. Works such as Laying of new water supply lines in uncovered areas was under way.
