Indore: The Indore Municipal Corporation on Saturday distributed safety gears and uniform to sanitation workers who clean drainage lines, keeping in mind the Sanitation Workers Safety Challenge.

The Indore Municipal commissioner Pratibha Pal said that sanitation workers' safety is necessary.

“Under the challenge all the sanitation workers must be provided with the safety gears and uniforms for their protection while working”, said commissioner Pal.

Equipment like helmet attached with torch, waterproof dress, oxygen cylinder, oxygen mask, and other things have been provided to the workers.

Commissioner Pal said that it is illegal to clean the sewage line and septic tank without wearing the safety gear and equipment under the challenge. It is also mandatory under the challenge that only a licensed person can do this work.

She added that under the challenge, 892 employees working in different zones and wards were given uniforms, 250 employees were given special uniforms, 40 employees were given waterproof uniforms, 20 breathing operators, 20 gas cylinders, 20 cameras, 20 tripod stands, 20 rope swings, 20 pressure vehicles of the corporation, 10 dewatering vehicles, 5 mini recyclers, 5 mini super suckers, and 5 small dewatering vehicles for drainage cleaning.

“In this way, the corporation is fully equipped with modern resources in order to protect its sanitation staff from entering the chamber for cleaning without any safety”, said commissioner Pal.
