Congress creating fake perspective to mislead people on Emergency: Bhardwaj

Dharmshala, June 25 ( UNI) Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said on Friday that the Congress party and people supporting its ideology are creating a fake perspective to hide the undemocratic act of destroying India's democracy by imposing Emergency on June 26, 1975.

Suresh Bhardwaj who was imprisoned during the emergency, said this while addressing a program online held here at Dharamsala, saying that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had imposed emergency to remain in power. Bhardwaj said, "When the Allahabad High Court judgment in Raj Narayan v State of Uttar Pradesh case closed the doors of Parliament for Indira Gandhi, she decided to impose emergency.

He said, “It was the Congress ideology of personality cult politics that destroyed democracy and jailed thousands of people for raising their voices to save the Indian Constitution. But the irony is that the same Congress and the Left are now engaged in creating a fake narrative to defame the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government under the guise of freedom of expression, saying it is a propaganda to hide their misdeeds. There's nothing other than that."

He said Congress has no moral right to talk about freedom of expression. “During the emergency, many media persons had to face atrocities. Newspapers were censored. People were stopped from speaking the truth. Now the same ideology is shedding crocodile tears, and simultaneously running fake propaganda against the Modi government.

The minister also said that the emergency may have been a 46-year-old incident but it has damaged Indian democracy. "The coming generation should know about this face of the Congress ideology," he said.
