IPL 2021: RCB’s AB De Villiers, PBKS Chris Gayle to weave their magic in Melbourne Club Cricket?- Mulgrave Cricket Club (MCC)- a community club in Melbourne- is in talks with IPL legends AB De Villiers, Chris Gayle, former cricketers Yuvraj Singh, and Brian Lara to weave their magic in the suburban T20 matches this summer.
Former South Africa batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan, who stays in Melbourne post his retirement, had played six matches for Mulgrave last year. He went on to score 132 runs in the ECA’s T20 Cup.
The club play in Melbourne’s Eastern Cricket Association (ECA)- a third-tier competition.
Earlier this year, Upul Tharanga who recently bid adieu to international cricket was reported to join the cricket club this year while Sanath Jayasuriya was given the role of coaching.
Speaking to 1116Sen podcast, Mulgrave President Malin Pullenayegam said, “We wanted to show the local cricketing community we can get stars like Dilshan, Tharanga and Jayasuriya.”
“With Dilshan’s involvement and the backing of some good sponsors, we are on a recruitment drive. We are having discussions with AB de Villiers, Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh, and though they are to be confirmed, these are the potential signings,” he added.

Pullenayegam, who is in his second year as the club president, claimed the deal has reached 85 to 90 per cent possibility.
“We are in negotiations, and with Chris (Gayle) and Yuvraj we are nearly 85 to 90 per cent there. We need to finalise a few things but it looks really good,” he was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au
He added that club needs finances to support its ambitious targets.
Other targets include luminaries such as Kevin Petersen and Virender Sehwag.
Dilshan, who led Sri Lanka legends in the Road Safety World Series, reportedly convinced Jayasuriya and Tharanga to join MCC.
The ECA’s T20 Cup features three preliminary matches before a knock-out phase of up of three more matches.
