Phillies' Neftali Feliz back in majors for first time since '17

The Philadelphia Phillies selected the contract of right-hander Neftali Feliz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, bringing the former Rookie of the Year back to the majors for the first time since 2017.

The team also placed right-hander Sam Coonrod on the 10-day injured list with tendinitis in his right forearm, designated right-hander David Hale for assignment, recalled infielder Nick Maton from Lehigh Valley and added right-hander Enyel De Los Santos to the roster as the 27th man for Friday's doubleheader in New York against the Mets.

Feliz, 33, was the American League Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in 2010 as the closer for the Texas Rangers. He was 2-1 with a 1.26 ERA and four saves in 15 appearances this season at Lehigh Valley. He has struck out 23 and walked six batters in 14 1/3 innings.

He owns a 21-19 record with 107 saves and a 3.49 ERA in 357 appearances (seven starts) with the Rangers (2009-15), Detroit Tigers (2015), Pittsburgh Pirates (2016), Milwaukee Brewers (2017) and Kansas City Royals (2017). He signed with the Phillies in January 2021.

Coonrod, 28, is 1-2 with a 4.18 ERA and two saves in 27 appearances out of the bullpen this season.

Hale, 33, is 0-2 with a 6.41 ERA in 17 games (one start) in 2021.

Coonrod and Hale allowed six runs in the sixth inning of Wednesday's 13-12 loss to the Washington Nationals.

Maton, 24, made his MLB debut on April 19 and is hitting .250 with two homers and eight RBIs in 40 games.

De Los Santos, 25, pitched in four games for Philadelphia earlier this season and went 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA.
