Delhi had run out of oxygen supply during months of April-May when patients claimed to have died due to shortage of oxygen supply

The Arvind Kejriwal-led government in Delhi has exaggerated oxygen requirement by upto four times during the Covid-19 second wave. The oxygen audit committee set up by the Supreme Court in its report submitted stated that the state government sought four times more oxygen than what was required.

The state had run out of oxygen supply during months of April-May when patients claimed to have died due to shortage of oxygen supply. The state government announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for families of those who lost their lives in incidents (of lack of oxygen supply).

Twenty-one Covid patients had died at the Jaipur Golden Hospital here in April as the hospital waited for oxygen to be replenished during the second wave.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia earlier said that the Centre has denied approval to a committee set up by the Delhi government to probe deaths caused by lack of oxygen supply during the second Covid wave. “Following the directive of the (high) court, the Delhi government constituted a committee of health experts to ascertain what led to these deaths,” Sisodia said.
