The Supreme Court-appointed audit committee to check the oxygen distribution system in Delhi submitted its report finally. The audit was said to be held in the wake of the second wave where oxygen scarcity has caused thousands of deaths. According to the report submitted by the committee,

The audit was said to be held in the wake of the second wave where oxygen scarcity has caused thousands of deaths. According to the report submitted by the committee, the delhi government accepted four times more oxygen than what was required.

For the unversed, during April-May, many delhi hospitals claimed that shortage of oxygen supply has led to the death of many patients. The delhi High court asked the Centre to supply more oxygen to the capital city and also the government too supplied more oxygen to delhi cutting the allotments to other states.

The audit report submitted by the committee claims that delhi demanded 1200 metric tonnes of oxygen while they only needed 300 metric tonnes of oxygen at that time. The report further said that due to excessive demand of oxygen by delhi, 12 other states had to face a severe shortage of it as the supply of other states had been cut short and was diverted to Delhi.

The oxygen task force said that consumption of oxygen in delhi between april 29 and May 10 had to be corrected due to a gross error in reporting by some hospitals. It recommended that all 18 metro cities be made oxygen-independent with at least 100 MT storage in the city itself.
