Twitter adds Razorpay to its Tip Jar feature

On Thursday, US-based microblogging and social networking service platform announced that it has brought Razorpay, an Indian payment gateway for its in-app payments feature known as Tip Jar to India.

Tip Jar was introduced in US in the month of May. Presently, only restricted people like creators, experts, journalists, public figures and community leaders using the platform in English will be able to view the option of adding Tip Jar to their accounts and accept tips.

Twitter wrote in a blog post that by integrating Razorpay, they hope to provide Indians with a simple and secure way to send money as a token of appreciation or as a gift. Tip Jar will be available in multiple Indian languages like Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi and Tamil.

Previously, the latest feature supported payment services like Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal as well as Venmo. The company said that through the interface of Razorpay, one can support individuals and organizations across the country via multiple modes of payment such as UPI, credit and debit cards, net banking, wallets among others.

They are also working on to bring more payment providers to Tip Jar across the globe. The feature is one of first of several upcoming ways for creators to be able to monetize their content and earn money from their greatest supporters.

“It is an easy way, and a first step towards creating new ways for people to receive and show support on Twitter — with money. Soon, more people will be able to add it to their profile in India and across the world,” it continued.
