The motion was ‘This house believes that developing countries should prioritise import substitution industrialisation over export-oriented industrialisation.’

DPS-Modern Indian School (DPS-MIS) recently hosted an international online debate against Team Qatar. The motion was ‘This house believes that developing countries should prioritise import substitution industrialisation over export-oriented industrialisation.’
It was a motion from the upcoming World School Debating Championship. The debaters took it as an impromptu one which was given to them on the spot before one hour to prepare. Victoria Honoridez, Gauri Gupta, and Atharv Bhatt from DPS-MIS stood as team proposition; whereas Sara al-Maadeed, Moza al-Hajri and Alreem al-Aqaily from Team Qatar as team opposition.
The debate was chaired by Sandra Ramachandran, an alumnus, and supported by Jaefar Shameem, Arya Kannade, Sparsh Choudhary, Drishti Tiberwal. After a fierce debate, the evening ended with a unanimous decision of giving the win to the team opposition.
