Legacies is the thrilling spin-off to The Originals and is set in the same world as The Vampire Diaries. Season 3 came to an end on Thursday, June 24, and thankfully, season 4 is already in the works.

When is Legacies Season 4 out?

Legacies season 4 was given the green light by The CW just weeks after the Season 3 premiere in January.

Even better, The CW has now been able to confirm a release date for the highly-anticipated new series, and it is coming to screens a lot sooner than anticipated.

Season 4 of Legacies will premiere on Thursday, October 14 at 9 p.m. ET. Episodes will air weekly on The CW.

Originally, Legacies Season 3 was supposed to have 20 episodes, but this was cut down to 16 as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As a result, the remaining four will be a part of the upcoming fourth series.

Who will star in Legacies Season 4?

The majority of the main cast will return for the fourth season of Legacies.

Aloha's Danielle Rose Russell will reprise her role as Hope Mikaelson, the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall.

The Vampire Diaries star Matthew Davis will be back as Alaric Saltzman, Josie and Lizzie's father and the headmaster of the Salvatore School.

Also returning is Santa Clarita Diet's Kaylee Bryant as Josie, and Sunday Tide's Jenny Boyd as Lizzie.

Unforgettable's Aria Shahghasemi will be back as Hope's love interest, Landon Kirby.

The Goldberg's Quincy Fouse will return as vampire MG, alongside Leo Howard as Ethan, Ben Levin as Jed, and Chris Lee as Kaleb.

Peyton Alex Smith is not expected to return as werewolf, Rafael, in season 4, after his character left Mystic Falls at the beginning of season 3.

The main cast of Legacies is also expected to be joined some new faces in season 4, alongside some notable guest stars from The Vampire Diaries universe.

What will happen in Legacies Season 4?

Legacies season 3 may have come to an abrupt end thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but the cliffhanger ending, as a result, has set up the events for season 4 quite nicely.

At the beginning of the Legacies Season 3, Cleo (played by Omono Okojie) was unable to trap Malivore, despite her plans to use Leonardo da Vinci's artwork combined with a stolen vial of Hope's blood to create a spell.

In a twist fans did not see coming, it was revealed Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) was actually Malivore in disguise and absorbed Clarke (Nick Fink) and Cleo, leaving a vulnerable Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) on her own.

The episode ended with Hope confronting Malivore, surrounded by her friends and family.

However, before it was revealed if Hope could take him down once and for all, the episode came to an end.

Unfortunately, many Legacies fans were left disappointed after Hope did not go full tribrid to put an end to Malivore.

However, this does not mean it could not happen in Season 4.

Speaking to Hollywood Life, Kaylee Bryant, who plays Josie Saltzman in the series, teased a "darker tone" for the fourth season.

She said: "We've actually already shot the first four episodes of season four as if it was the finale to season three, so I'm a little discombobulated. But I do know that the end of 16 is catapulting us into a darker tone this coming season, which I'm excited for the fans to see and to react to."

Is there a trailer for Legacies Season 4?

No, there is no trailer yet for Legacies Season 4. A trailer will likely drop closer to the show release date on Thursday, October 14.

In the meantime, fans have been sharing their thoughts on the fourth series of Legacies online.

One fan tweeted: "#Legacies where is the flavor??? U better make season 4 way darker! I miss the crying over characters and blood come on."

A second fan said: "look, I know the "it was a dream all along" is a crappy cop-out, but i think we can all agree that it would be for the best if #legacies pulled that in season 4 and pretended season 3 was hope dreaming."
