Jos Buttler could miss the rest of England's white-ball cricket this summer after tearing his calf in first T20 against Sri Lanka, with priority on getting him fit again for five-match Test series with India in August

  • Jos Buttler could miss the rest of the white-ball cricket summer with a calf tear
  • England's vice-captain got the injury during his side's T20 win over Sri Lanka
  • Buttler will be out for at least a fortnight, with hope he's fit for India Test series

Jos Butler might have played his last white-ball cricket of the summer for England after suffering a torn calf during his first appearance.

MRI scans revealed a low-grade tear in his right leg following a man-of-the-match, unbeaten 68 in Cardiff on Wednesday put Eoin Morgan’s team on course for a series victory sealed last night ahead of Saturday’s final match.

England’s vice-captain is expected to be out for at least a fortnight, a time period which would rule out his participation in the one-day series against the Sri Lankans starting next week and eat into six internationals versus Pakistan.

Although they have not ruled him out of returning during the three Twenty20s that conclude limited-overs internationals here this summer, it is understood that England’s priority is for him to get fit for the first Test against India on August 4.

The inclusion of England’s star players at the start of the Hundred - which begins on July 21 - is also crucial to the ECB’s long-term strategy for their new competition.
