7th International Day of Yoga at MU
The Manipur University observed the “7th International Day of Yoga 2021” under the theme of “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family” as a part of ‘Fit India Movement’, organised by Department of Yoga in association with NSS, Cell, Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club, and Manipur University, Canchipur on 21st June, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. through virtual.
Mr. Letpao Haokip, Hon’ble Minister of IFCD AND YAS, Govt. Of Manipur, Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, Manipur University, Prof. T. Inaobi Singh, Dean, School of Education, Manipur University, and Prof. S. Sanatombi Singha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor (i/c), Manipur University, Canchipur had kindly consented to grace the virtual function as Chief Guest, Guests of Honour and President for this Observance of 7th International Day of Yoga 2021.
Dr. N. Nilakamal Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Yoga, Manipur University, Canchipur delivered the welcome Speech. Dr. M. Nodiyachand Singh, Head, Department of Yoga, Manipur University and organising secretary of IDY 2021 delivered the Key - note address on the occasion.
Mr. Letpao Haokip, Hon’ble Minister of IFCD AND YAS, Govt. Of Manipur, express that Yoga, an ancient practice and meditation, has become increasingly popular in today's busy society. For many people, yoga provides a retreat from their chaotic and busy lives. He further said, Yoga is one of oldest traditional discipline in India and it is considered highly relevant and beneficial in today’s day and age since the practice comprehensively addresses a diverse range of physical, mental, social and spiritual. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. We need to practice yoga regularly. Yoga gives us physical strength and peace of mind, he added.

Prof. S. Sanatombi Singha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor (i/c), Manipur University, Canchipur delivered the presidential speech on this International Yoga Day. She said Yoga is not a religion; it is a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body. She explained details of Yoga asanas are the simplest and the easiest way to reduce our excess weight and to meditate our body and mind. The ancient practice types of yoga asanas provide a wide range of mind and body benefits, including other benefits like giving strength and flexibility, stress relief and even to cure many diseases. Yoga is all about stretching our body in different forms and meditation.
Further she said, the art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual’s mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps relaxing body mind.
Finally, Demonstration of Common Yoga Protocol was performed by the expert Dr. M. Nodiyachand Singh, Head, Department of Yoga, Manipur University followed by all the participants.
At the end of the observation, Dr. Kuntal Ghosh, Assistant Professor delivered the vote of thanks.
