PM's all-party meeting with J&K leaders concludes

New Delhi, Jun 24 (UNI) The all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the mainstream political parties of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the future course of action for the Union Territory on Thursday has concluded.

The meeting which was held at the Prime Minister's official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg lasted for nearly 3.5 hours.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, People's Conference leader Sajjad Lone said the meeting was held in a very cordial atmosphere.

'We came out quite positive that hopefully there will be some delivery for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,' he said.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said the party has kept five demands in the meeting which includes statehood, conduct of Assembly polls, rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir and all political detainees should be released and on domicile rules.

The dialogue with the Kashmiri leaders is first of its kind since August 5, 2019 when the Centre stripped the erstwhile state of its special status and divided it into two Union Territories.

Besides the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers -- Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti and other leaders of Jammu and Kashmir attended the meeting.
