U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Cincinnati say they recently seized a shipment containing about 20 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value just over $627,000 hidden inside blankets.

The highly addictive stimulant drugs from Guadalajara, Mexico were headed to a residence in West Point, Georgia, before being sniffed out by a trained dog, Customs said in a news release.

“Our officers excel at connecting the dots and identifying and disrupting transnational networks of all kinds of illicit trade, whether it be intellectual property rights infringements, narcotics or agriculture violations, or enforcing numerous partner agencies’ regulations,” Cincinnati Port Director Richard Gillespie said in the release.

“Although bad actors continue to try to get their dangerous goods through our borders, our officers are there to stop narcotics like these from reaching our citizens.”
