Just when the second wave of Covid-19 started showing signs of slowdown the Delta Plus variant of the virus has created fear and panic across the country.
The first case of infection with the delta plus variant of Covid-19 has been reported in Tamil Nadu. A nurse from Chennai has tested positive for this variant. A top official of the state gave this information on Wednesday.
Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr. J Radhakrishnan said that in May, the health department had sent 1,159 samples to INSACOG (Indian SARS Cove-2 Genomic Consortia), a group of 28 laboratories earmarked for genetic sequencing of the COVID-19 virus. Out of these, the test report of 772 samples came on Wednesday.
India currently more than 40 cases of the `Delta Plus`variant of Covid-19. Maharashtra has the highest 21 cases, a maximum of nine cases were recorded in Ratnagiri while two cases were received from Mumbai. Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh jointly received 15 to 20 cases.
The first death from Delta Plus Version was reported today in Madhya Pradesh`s Ujjain.
The central government has termed it `Variant of Concern` and warned different state government about its danger.
The Delta Plus has mutated from the same Delta variant that was found in India in October 2020 and it gradually spread to 80 countries around the world. It is named as B.1.617.2.1 in technical terms.
The Delta Plus variant was found in Europe in March this year, which later spread to other countries.
Delta Plus variant has been detected in nine more countries apart from India, that are US, UK, Portugal, Switzerland, Japan, Nepal, Poland, China and Russia.
The Health Ministry has clarified that both Indian vaccines Covishield and Covaxin are effective against delta variants.
Symptoms of the Delta plus variant are not yet known, but Stomach pain, Nausea, Vomiting, Loss of appetite, loss of hearing and Joint pain are symptoms of Delta variant
The delta plus variant of the coronavirus is much more infectious and dangerous than other variants as it is transmitted much faster.
