Renault Kiger, the latest model from the French manufacturer in the Indian market is doing well on the sales charts at the moment. Global NCAP, which provides crash test rating will soon release the safety ratings for the Kiger. Renault Triber recently won a four-star rating from Global NCAP and Renault is expecting a similar rating for the Kiger as well.

According to ACI, Global NCAP has already tested the Kiger under the #SaferCarsForIndia program. While final ratings are currently being assessed, what we know is that the officials have subjected the Kiger to various crash tests.

This includes an off-set frontal crash test at a speed of 64 km/h. We are not sure which variant was tested by Global NCAP but it is likely to be the base or the mid-level variant with safety features that include two airbags, a front passenger seatbelt reminder system and ABS.

The report also says that the top Renault management is expecting a 4-star safety rating for the Kiger. Since it is based on the same CMF-A+ platform as the Triber, which was recently tested by Global NCAP and received a 4-star safety rating.

Kiger remains high in demand

The Kiger has become one of the best-selling models for the manufacturer after its launch. The Renault Kiger has sold around 2,655 unit in the last three months. With the growing popularity of the Kiger, it seems that the new safety ratings will only boost the sales numbers in the future.

The Renault Kiger competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and more such vehicles. The Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300 have both scored five-star safety ratings from Global NCAP. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has scored a four-star safety rating.

Renault offers only petrol engine options with the Kiger. There are two engine options – a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.0-litre turbocharged unit generates a maximum of 99 PS and 160 Nm while the naturally-aspirated version churns out a maximum power of 72 PS and 96 Nm. The engine options will be available with an AMT, manual transmission and CVT automatic transmission.

The Kiger offers different driving modes as well. There is Eco, Sport and Normal. As per the official figures, the turbocharged petrol manual returns a maximum of 20 km/l. Coming to space, the Kiger offers segment-best boot space of 405 litres. Renault also claims that the Kiger has a massive storage capacity with 29.1 litres of storage available inside the cabin while 10.5-litre of storage available in the glove box. The car offers a ground clearance of 205mm.
