Former Springbok coach Allister Coetzee is back in international rugby limelight after he was announced as the senior national head coach of Namibia.

Coetzee's contract runs until the end of the 2023 World Cup.

According to the Republikein newspaper, the selection and recruitment process for the head coach position was carried out in collaboration with World Rugby.

Coetzee's last coaching job was with Canon Eagles in Japan which came to an end in 2020.

He coached the Springboks between 2016 and 2018 but was fired after a string of poor performances by the national team.

A former coach of the Stormers franchise in Super Rugby, Coetzee will take over from Johan Diergaardt who quit at the end of last year.

Namibia have not played a Test match since the 2019 World Cup because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
