RATE HIKE: The Czech National Bank delivered its first interest rate hike since early 2020 on Wednesday, embarking on a tightening cycle that could see borrowing costs rise further at upcoming policy meetings as the bank seeks to cool inflationary pressures.
CEE MARKETS: The Czech crown firmed on Wednesday afternoon as the central bank governor said monetary policy is likely to have entered a phase of gradual tightening after the bank raised rates for the first time since early 2020.

PENSIONS: Parliament gave its initial nod to government's plan to raise pensions faster as of the next year. The bill would add 300 crowns to a monthly pension, which would increase budget spending by 10.6 billion crowns ($498.94 million) overall in 2022.
The Finance Ministry already plans budget deficit of 390 billion crowns for the next year, more than the gap was in 2020, when the country was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
