Tamil Nadu: Policeman among three held for murdering friend

TIRUNELVELI: Three people, including a policeman, were arrested by the Tirunelveli police for beating their friend to death.
The victim was identified as L Arul Visuvasam, 48, a realtor from NGO ‘B’ Colony in the city. The trio were identified as M Manikandan, a head-constable in the Pazhavoor police station from NGO ‘B’ Colony, S Maria Siluvai, of M L Pillai Nagar and E Jesu Paul of Perumalpuram.
Preliminary inquiries by the Perumalpuram police revealed that the four friends were engaged in real estate dealings and used to consume alcohol together. On Tuesday night, while consuming alcohol near the RTO office, a quarrel broke out between them. The three accused brutally beat Visuvasam and dropped him home.
The victim’s wife Mary took him to a private hospital from where he was referred to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, as his condition deteriorated.
However, he died on Wednesday night, following which the police booked the trio for murder and arrested them on Thursday. Manikandan was placed under suspension
He is the second policeman arrested in connection with a murder case in the region in the last one month.
In May, a policeman was arrested in Tuticorin for murdering a man in connivance with a historysheeter to avenge the murder of the former’s uncle more than two decades ago.
