Chandigarh: A Delhi resident has been booked for allegedly cheating the owner of Oyster Hotel, Sector 17, to the tune of Rs4.30 lakh. According to the police, complainant Rajesh Mahajan alleged that Jai Shankar Jha of Delhi, who introduced himself as a representative of M/s Jaya Carpets, visited his office in Sector 7 in October last year. The complainant ordered goods from the suspect and made a payment of Rs4.30 lakh. However, the suspect failed to deliver the goods. TNS

Man’s mobile phone snatched

Chandigarh: Two bike-borne miscreants allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a man on Monday. Complainant Ajay Singh stated that the miscreants snatched his phone near the Sector 7/8 road. TNS

Chandigarh: The UT Administration has declared June 24 a public holiday on account of Kabir Jayanti. The Home Department said all government offices, boards, corporations and institutions, including industrial establishments, under the UT Administration would observe a holiday on Thursday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Chandigarh: A poetry collection of Dr Vinod Kumar Sharma, “Badte Kadam”, was released by an eminent poet and Director of Haryana Sahitya Akademi, Dr Chandra Trikha. Awareness drive by Mohali police

Mohali: Mohali SP (Traffic) Gurjot Singh Kler has launched a week-long special campaign (June 21 to 26) to create awareness about the road safety rules. As part of the drive, night-time reflectors will be installed on vehicles and carts in Mohali. “By installing these reflectors, we can save many precious lives and prevent accidents. “The administration is conducting a campaign to install reflectors on vehicles,” he said.
