The auto unions have demanded access in the departure terminal of terminal 2, also known as T2, which has been currently barred. The unions also demanded a prepaid auto stand at T2 of the Mumbai International Airport.

A meeting took place between the RTO officials, auto rickshaw unions and Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL).

One of the biggest complaints of people have always been rogue auto drivers who overcharge, despite the e-meters.

“There was a discussion with the auto unions and Mumbai airport officials, during which the latter have shown interest in starting prepaid autos from the airport premises.

This will be useful for passengers. In the past, there have been discussions on the same. But this time, the airport officials have shown interest,” said a senior RTO officer.

Meanwhile the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority has already discussed this in the past.

Sources said that they will put forth this proposal only when they receive a written proposal on the same.

Some of the factors like service charges, fares, parking and other details will be formulated once the proposal is in writing and gets an approval.

“These were the issues discussed. However, nothing has been finalized yet,” said an official from MIAL.

The auto unions have shown interest in this proposal as well.

“We are interested in this. We prepaid auto stands at T2. We have also demanded access to the departure area of T2 till the time T1 is not resumed for passengers,” said Thampi Kurien, auto union leader.

The prepaid auto fare will ensure the safety of passengers. The prepaid auto stand was started at Kurla LTT but has been shut.
