Failure of Tengnoupal Police Station to arrest Child rapist

22nd June, 2021

HUMBLE APPEAL TO THE DGP TO TAKE ACTION ON THE FAILURE OF TENGNOUPAL POLICE STATION TO ARREST A CHILD RAPIST

Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) strongly dissatisfied with the irresponsibility of the Tengnoupal Police Station for its failure to arrest a child rapist of Lamlong Khullen Village of Machi Sub-Div since the commissioning of the crime on the 12th of May, 2021 at around 6:30 pm.

A written complaint was submitted on the 15th of May, 2021 by the eldest sister of the victim mentioning that her younger sister was raped by the said accused person at his residence and requested the police to take up legal action. Concerning the same FIR was lodged bearing FIR No: 29(5)2021 TPL-PS U/s. 4 POCSO, Act & 376 IPC, however, the said accused person is yet to be arrested till date.

It has been more than 37 days, the accused person is roaming scot free and the Tengnoupal Police Station is not able to arrest the said accused person which is very unfortunate.

We, therefore, request the Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and CWC Tengnoupal District to kindly make an urgent intervention to arrest the accused person at the earliest so as to undergo due process of law.

Lastly we request the DGP to take up necessary action against the Officer-in-Charge, Tengnoupal Police Station for its failure to arrest the accused person.
