Brazil reports record 115,228 new nCoV cases, 2,392 deaths

Rio DE Janeiro, Jun 24 (UNI) Brazil recorded 115,228 new cases of the noble coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day spike since the onset of the pandemic, taking the total number of infections to 18,169,881, the national Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

Besides, the country also saw 2,392 deaths in the last 24 hours due to the virus, pushing the number of fatalities to 507,109.

According to the ministry, more than 16.48 million people have recovered from the disease.

Brazil has been the second most-affected country in the world in terms of deaths due to COVID after the US which has recorded more than 602,000 fatalities.

The World Health Organisation declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11, last year. To date, more than 179.33 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide, with over 3.88 million fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University.
