Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The cleanest city, Indore, is all set to become the first city in the country to administer first dose of Covid-19 vaccine to all residents above the age of 18 years.

Out of around 28.5 lakh eligible people, 22,00,842 had received the first jab till Wednesday. In percentage, the figure stands at 78.5. Indore is likely to inoculate all above the age of 18 years by mid-July.

Just two days after it made a record of highest number of Covid-19 vaccinations, the cleanest city again emerged as number one for administrating highest number of vaccine shots in a single day for any district in the country.

According to Indore collector Manish Singh, as many as 1,58,893 people were vaccinated under "Vaccine Mahabhiyan" in Indore, which was the highest number of single-day jabs administered by any district in the country.”

Indore administration had set a target of administering around 1.25 lakh jabs on Wednesday. However, hurriedness among residents to get the shot at the earliest surpassed the target.

The eagerness of people to get themselves jabbed could be gauged from the fact that many vaccination centres ran out of vaccines by afternoon and had to call for additional shots from the store.

Many people who reached vaccination centres in the evening had to return disappointed also they could not get the jabs due to unavailability of the same.

With 1.07 lakh jabs in a single day, Mumbai stood second in the country in administering Covid-19 jabs followed by Pune where around 88,000 people were vaccinated. Jabalpur stood third with 60,858 vaccinations and Bhopal fourth with 60,685.
