6th times a charm? Weight Loss Log

This is going to be my weight loss journal and a reason to keep myself accountable. I'll try to post every couple days.

    So here we go.

    Entry 1.
Every year for the past 5 years I would lose 30 pounds over the course of 5-6 months and then slowly gain it back the next 6 months. While failing, I also have gained a ton of knowledge and feel that I now truly understand how to lose the weight, I just need to stick with it. I thought last year was really going to be the year i succeeded. Then covid hit and little by little my motivation and discipline chipped away and I gained almost all of it back yet again.

A little context, I'm morbidly obese at 378 (down from 389). I lost 100 pounds years ago with just cardio and heavily restricting calories. I gained it all back do to alcoholism and working third shift for years. I quit drinking 5 years ago and am in a much better spot in life and no longer work third shift. My weight has stayed about the same since I quit drinking (other than the fluctuating 30 lbs) and its finally time to get back down to a healthy weight. I am truly motivated and believe I finally have the discipline and desire to lose 100+lb this time. I have my nutrition down and tons of healthy recipes I've learned over the years. I'm trying to stick to 1700 calories daily. I'm almost 39 years old and refuse to be over 300 at age 40. This is happening.

I have been doing curls, military press and squats at home with a barbell but I need more. I just signed up for a gym today but I'm honestly lost on what to do on my first day. I don't want to waste my time and really want to do this right. I've looked a bit at the workout programs here and will most likely use one of those but any reading material or advice would be hugely appreciated.
