Exactly three month after his three year term was approved by the tenth Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola has been conspicuously absent from the public.
In the past two months, reports of Senior police officers at the institution’s headquarters falling prey to the contagious viral COVID-19 have been topping headlines.
Even long before the President ordered for the lockdown, it’s said that the leadership at Naguru had already directed their officers to maintain minimal physical presence at the Naguru facility after a number of high ranking officers reportedly contracted the disease.
All through this silent crisis, it’s been established that the institution was being ran without Ochola being sighted anywhere.
Some sources from within the force have revealed that there has been an unsubstantiated rumour that the police Chief could have contracted COVID-19, just like many of his subordinates.
It’s also reported that the sick IGP has for the last nearly two months been confined to his home under the strict management of very senior doctors from Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Ochola has missed all the most important public functions this year.
He was no show at the swearing in of the President on May 12, the election of the Speaker at Kololo twelve days later and most recently the swearing in of the cabinet.
