Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) has celebrated ‘International Day of Yoga 2021’ by organizing a webinar to highlight ‘Yoga for Wellness’ in virtual mode today. The International Day of yoga is celebrated every year on 21st June. Yoga is a mental, physical and spiritual practice which originated in India.

For the first time this day was celebrated on 21 June 2015, which was initiated by the Prime Minister of India, Sh. Narendra Modi in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. This year's theme is 'Yoga for Wellness', which focuses on practicing yoga for physical and mental well-being. Due to Corona, there will be no public yoga program this time. People participated in the yoga programme virtually by staying at home and listening Yoga Experts.

The programme was addressed by Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD, Imphal, Manipur. Eminent experts including Dr. P. Manivel, Principal Scientist, ICAR-Central Tobacco Research Institute, Research Station, Tamil Nadu, Dr. L.W. Ananta, Managing Director, The Yoga Physique Institute and Studies, Manipur and Sh. K. Thomas Niranjan Kumar, Wellness Expert from Hyderabad to grace the event and highlighted the importance of Yoga for human wellness.

Dr. Manivel highlighted the importance of Yoga for our physical and mental health. Dr Ananta explained basics principles of Yoga and role of different traditions, lineages and guru-shishya parampras for setting up of traditional schools for Yoga.

Sh. Niranjan Kumar emphasized mainly on the new wellness techniques to cure many diseases. All the scientists, scholars and staff members of IBSD and other organizations attended the programme.
