CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu finance minister P T R Palanivel Thiagarajan on Wednesday alleged that the previous AIADMK regime had not tabled five performance reports by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on the state government.
Intervening the debate on the motion of thanks to governor’s address, the finance minister said the CAG sent the reports to the state on March 6 and 11 last year. The reports were pertaining to the year 2017-18.
“They were sent to the chief minister’s office for tabling in the assembly. However, it was sent to the finance department. In February this year, the reports were sent to the CM for obtaining his signature, but they were returned without offering any reasons,” Thiagarajan said.
After assuming office, chief minister M K Stalin signed the reports in two days and sent them to governor Banwarilal Purohit.
“There are five reports without being released by the government. This is the reason why we are unaware of the problems. If the (AIADMK) government had maintained transparency and followed the democratic principles, we would have taken note of (the lapses in governance) then itself,” the finance minister said.
