LEXINGTON — Kentucky basketball's rivalry with Kansas will continue into the 2021-22 season.

The Wildcats will play at Kansas as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 29, 2022, the SEC announced Wednesday. The game will mark the seventh season in a row in which the two historic college basketball powerhouses have met. The two programs play on a rotating basis in the four-team Champions Classic. In the years they do not play each other in that event, Kentucky and Kansas have played in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

Kentucky lost to Kansas, 65-62, in Indianapolis in the Champions Classic last season. The Wildcats' last game at Kansas was a 90-84 overtime loss in the 2015-16 season.

Kentucky basketball roster:Who's leaving? Who's returning? Who's joining the team?

UK leads the all-time series against the Jayhawks 23-10 but is 4-4 against Kansas in the John Calipari era. Kentucky beat Kansas in the 2012 national championship game.

Kentucky did not play a Big 12/SEC Challenge game last season because the scheduled matchup with Texas was canceled due to COVID-19 quarantines within the UK program.
