In Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala, the Center has been urged to take necessary steps immediately to prevent the spread of the new variant Delta Plus of Coronavirus. The Union Health Ministry has given written instructions regarding the prevention of the new variant, alerting the Chief Secretaries of these states.

Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has urged the Chief Secretaries in the letter to follow all the necessary protocols for prevention in the districts. In this, along with increasing the testing, emphasis has been given on giving priority to the vaccine. Along with this, mass gatherings and crowds have been asked to stop gathering. The Health Secretary said that cases of infection with the new variant Delta Plus of coronavirus have been reported in Shivpuri and Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh, Jalgaon, and Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, Palakkad, and Pathanmitha districts of Kerala.

It has also been urged in the letter that arrangements should be made to ensure that sufficient samples of positive people reach INSACOG's lab so that necessary research can be done on it. On Monday, it was told by the ministry that about 40 cases of Delta Plus variant were reported in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala. These three states have been advised to strengthen the surveillance mechanism along with taking necessary steps for public health.
