Bengaluru, June 23: Despite the rapid spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in India, a small village in Karnataka proved a beacon of hope with zero COVID-19 cases. With effective measures, Allapur village of Dharwad district has remained unaffected by the second wave of COVID-19.
The villagers have been actively taking the necessary precautions to prevent the contagion from spreading and did not venture out during this togh time. They wore masks, maintained social distance and good hand hygiene.
Mallikarjun Radder, president, COVID19 Taskforce, Allapur village says not a single coronavirus positive case has been reported in our village so far.
The villagers took the lockdown challenge upon themselves, volunteering to impose lockdowns, distribute face masks and create awareness about the covid protocols.
"I have a hotel but I didn't open it due to the COVID19. We maintained distance and didn't visit another village," says a local Shivalingapp Angadi.
The Allapur Gram Panchayat informed villagers about the disease and how to take care of themselves and their families under the prevailing pandemic situation.
Villagers visiting neighbouring places for their livelihood are following the strict Covid-19 norms. They are washing their hands when they get back home and a few others are bathing outside their houses.
Karnataka is still among the top five states which is contributing the high case load in the country. The state has announced relaxations in 17 districts after a gap of 55 days of strict lockdown curbs.
Bagalkot, Ballari, Belagavi, Bidar, Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Kolar, Koppala, Mandya, Raichur, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Vijayapura, and Yadgir have been reporting low cases.
