Priyanka Gandhi slams Uttar Pradesh government over Mathura girl incident, says in jungle raj, women’s safety in God’s hands

The Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday slammed the Yogi Aditynath led Uttar Pradesh government and said in jungle raj, women’s safety is in God’s hands.

Hitting out at the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the issues of women safety and crimes against women, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged that such crimes are being committed against women in Uttar Pradesh which would make one’s soul tremble but the government is sleeping.

Listing out the incident of crime against women in Uttar Pradesh, Gandhi tweeted, in Mathura goons who had been harassing a girl for a year entered her house and threw her from the terrace. A girl, troubled over being teased, ended her own life in Hamirpur. In her tweet, she said in jungle raj, the safety of women is in God’s hands.

Gandhi’s attack on the government came after three men barged into the house of a 17-year-old girl on Tuesday and allegedly threw her off the second floor of the building. The girl is battling for life in a hospital. The district police has lodged an FIR in the case and arrested two of the three accused.

Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi has been very vocal against the Central government on a range of issues. Her twitter timeline is filled with posts criticising UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over poor law and order, Covid mismanagement, availability of vaccines and the Modi government’s inability to handle Covid second wave.

Gandhi’s Facebook page is liked by over 4.2 million people, with each post on an average getting around 10,000-12,000 likes. In comparison, she has 3.7 million followers on Twitter.

Keeping in mind the popularity and activeness of the leader, Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Wednesday termed her as Congress’ captain and said she is a great face leading the party’s charge in Uttar Pradesh. He said it is up to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to decide the manner in which she will present herself to the voters in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

Khurshid also claimed that the Congress will emerge as the principal challenger to the BJP before the assembly elections and Priyanka Gandhi is determined to ensure that the party fights the polls with all its might.

The Congress won just seven seats while its alliance partner Samajwadi Party (SP) bagged 47 seats in the 403-member assembly in the 2017 assembly polls. The BJP won a thumping mandate with 312 seats and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) bagged 19 seats.
