Covid-19: First Delta plus variant case reported in Jammu

Jammu, Jun 23 (UNI) Jammu Government Medical College authorities on Wednesday confirmed the detection of Delta plus variant here.
Dr Shashi S Sudhan, Principal and Dean GMC, Jammu, here said that the variant was detected in a man from Talab Tillo area.
The patient, who is in his late thirties, had tested positive at SMVDNSH Kakriyal, Katra on May 15 and his sample was sent to NCDC, New Delhi for genomic sequencing.
Dr Sudhan further said that this was also a case of vaccine breakthrough as the patient was fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
India is among ten countries where the delta plus variant has been found so far. There are over 40 cases of the new variant in the country.
The states which have so far reported cases of the Delta plus variant include Maharashtra, Kerala and pockets of Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
