Aurangabad / Mumbai, Jun 23 (UNI) Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Wednesday said that the Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold by-elections on the seats reserved for OBCs in local bodies, which were stalled by the Supreme Court verdict.
While blaming the Centre for 'injustice' to OBCs, he stated in a press statement that despite repeated demands by the state government, the central government was unwilling to provide empirical data.
Mr Bhujbal further stated that the Election Commission announced the elections when the issue was not resolved and pointed that they were still adamant on their demand of postponement of the elections.
"So we are demanding for postponement of the elections as it will affect other backward classes," he added.
Meanwhile, after the apex court's verdict in March, state chief secretary Sitaram Kunte had written to the State Election Commission in April seeking postponement of the by-elections due to ongoing corona crisis.
