On 27 February 2021, SEAMED FRANCE completed its first sea trip by hauling up this 20 tonnes anchor with a chain measuring over 300 metres.
When anchoring, boats may have to get off their anchor if it gets stuck. It is problematic, as it increases the risk of other boats getting their anchors trapped. To avoid this problem, the port of Barcelona has commissioned SEAMED FRANCE, a French company specialized in maritime logistics, to recover abandoned anchors.
Some anchors can weigh up to 30 tonnes and chains up to 400 metres long. The French company detects anchors thanks to a bathymetric system, then grabs chain with a custom-made grapple. SEAMED FRANCE hopes to raise 65 anchors in the next few weeks. For towing, SEAMED FRANCE has the “AILETTE” tug. At 53 metres long and 13 metres wide with 64 TBP. The 1,000 tonnes vessel can carry up to 480 tonnes of payload. The very specialized ten crew members of “AILETTE” have been dedicated to this mission to ensure its success.
