Maclaren signs contract extension at City
Melbourne City have ensured they'll have the most lethal attack in the A-League for at least the next three years, with Socceroos striker Jamie Maclaren signing a two-year contract extension.
Back-to-back A-League golden boot winner Maclaren added a further two years to his existing contract and is now locked in at City until the end of the 2023-24 season.
With Mathew Leckie joining on a three-year deal and Andrew Nabbout re-signing until the end of 2023-24, City have a Socceroos-based attacking trio that should set them up for dominance for years to come.
"You always have that one club in your career where it just feels like home. Melbourne City is that place for me - both on and off the pitch," Maclaren said.
"This group is special and we're building something unique.
"When people think of Melbourne City, we want our fans to see our strong culture, enjoy our style of attacking football and to celebrate with us when we win trophies.
"We work hard every day to achieve this."
Maclaren scored 25 goals for City this league season - a major factory in City securing the premiers plate - before departing for the Socceroos' World Cup qualifiers.
He is unavailable for this week's grand final, but his long-term re-signing is massive, just days out from arguably the biggest game in City's history.
"We are so pleased to be able to finalise a long-term contract with Jamie and to be able to do it so quickly shows his passion for the club, his hometown and the fans," City football director Michael Petrillo said.
"This is another example of the culture we have built at our club.
"Jamie is obviously a massive influence on the pitch, but he's also a fantastic leader in the dressing room.
"By committing to Melbourne City for the next three seasons, Jamie has shown his desire to win more silverware at the club."
