CF Montreal returns to face defensive-minded D.C. United

D.C. United will aim for a third consecutive victory when they visit Montreal CF on Wednesday.

D.C. United (4-5-0, 12 points) returned from the international break Saturday the same way it went into it - with a victory against Inter Miami CF.

The club outscored Inter Miami 4-0 in the two matches and has held its opponents to one goal or fewer in its past five outings.

D.C. United has allowed more than two goals only twice this season, in losses to a 4-1 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes and a 3-1 defeat to the Columbus Crew in the third and fourth games of the season.

"Collectively, we are on the right track," goalkeeper Bill Hamid said, according to the Washington Post. "Even the losses, the style of play you could see was coming together, so thankfully now it's starting to translate over into results, and we can keep this thing going."

Forward Ola Kamara has paced the attack in the past two games, with three total goals, and leads United with four goals on the season.

Montreal (3-3-2, 11 points) will be back on the field for the first time since the MLS schedule resumed following the international break.

The club is looking to pick up where it left off, having secured a 1-0 win against the Chicago Fire on May 29 to end a two-game losing streak. Forward Mason Toye provided the lone goal.

"Obviously, the win was massive," Toye said, according to the Montreal Gazette. "We haven't won in a while. For us to end on a high note is massive, just from a mental standpoint. After the break, we know we can hopefully keep that going. It's always better to end on a win."

Toye, who was returning from an injury, entered the game against the Fire as a substitute in the 60th minute. His three goals this season lead Montreal.
